Aftermarket radio/cd player problems 200 1986

I have just added a Sony AM/FM CD player to my 240. It came out of a donor '91 240. The radio that was in my car previous was a Pioneer cassette deck. The "new" radio starts out playing fine BUT the heat sink on the back gets extremely hot and after about 10 minutes of playing the radio begins to cut out. If I turn it off for a few minutes it will play fine after it is turned back on but then starts cutting out again. (When I say cutting out I mean the sound stops and the display flashes for just an instant then it plays for some period of time and then does it again over and over.)

The radio did not come with a wiring diagram and the harness in my '86 is different than the '91. However other than the speaker wires there were only four wires: Black=ground, red=switched hot, yellow=hot, blue=antenna the only wire not used (no power antenna in this 240 and this wire is marked for power antenna). This is the wiring order that I deduced.

As far as the heat goes I know that the Alpine in my 740 gets pretty hot judging by the heat on the radio face but I have never had it out to test the temp of the heat sink so I'm not sure if this Sony is any hotter, but the Sony is very hot. It won't melt wire insulation, but it will boil spit (don't ask).

Anybody got any ideal as to what is going on here and any ideals to fix it?

Thanks, David
