Cracked in cylinder head 700 1986

Currently my '86 volvo 745ti has 230,000 mile on it. I just found out that there is a small crack adjacent to one of the studs on the exhaust manifold. Since there's no good fit there, I have an exhause leak. This means that the car will not pass smog here in CA. Should I purchase a replacement head, neglecting the bottom end on this high mileage beauty?; Or, get a full rebuild while head is off? Or, replace the engine altogether?; Like most, I don't have oodles of cash to burn. The car is running pretty strong right now. But, if I can't get it smogged by registration renewal time, in August, then I can't keep her. Also, can someone tell me what the front seal is? I was told that I needed to replace it, but haven't been able to locate it in my Hayes.
