Crazy Brake Problem 700 1986

I had all four rotors and sets of pads changed on my 740GLE about 5 months ago. A day after I had them replaced my brake light came on, and the pedal was pretty hard to depress. These symptons were sparatic however, so i drove the car anyway. After a week the brake light went out, but the pedal has always felt rather odd. A week ago, my front drivers side rotor started grinding. So, upon further inspection, I saw that only one brake pad on that one wheel was completely gone. Im talking metal on metal. The problem is, it is the outer brake pad. Not the inner pad, where all te brake preasure is actually applied. How can this be? All my other pads look practically new. I threw a new set of pads on the front wheels, and i feel my brakes slowly falling back into there old state. Whats the issue and how do I fix it?
