Distributor gear placement ?

I am not a B20 knowledgeable person, but have general knowledge about engines.

The starting place is where The cam, piston and crank are lined up at top dead center beginning the power stroke.

The distributor should be set so the rotor points to the location of the wire to #1 cylinder. Remember that as the distributor is removed/replaced its shaft will turn a bit. Allow for this, install accordingly.

There may be a mark on the distributor housing for the #1 location such that you can see if the rotor is correct while the cap is off. If no mark, make one. Setting this way will be good enough to allow the engine to run.

Once the distributor is in, the next timing check will need to be done with a timing light while the engine is running. The spark advance degrees may be shown on a label on the LF inner fender, or found in Haynes manual. On the B230F it is 12 degrees BTDC. The B20 may be different.

Good Luck,

Bob
