Oil leak... head gasket maybe?? 200 1990

1990 244 125K unknown history

New project car. Car hasn't been on the road for a couple of years. Evidence of long tern oil leak on front and passenger's side of the engine. I removed radiator, fan, alternator, timing belt cover, waterpump and cam (adjusting valves/replacing dampners)to begin major service. The largest portion of the oil crude build up was directly below the #1 exhaust runner. It appeared to have been leaking at the headgasket.

I have never run across an oil leak between the block and head before. Has anyone else found this on their Volvo? I hate to put this all back together and find that there is actually a leak there and need to go back and change it. I am about half way there at this point.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Randy
