Help me fix my genius handywork pleez 200

I F'd up. I removed oil pan and pump while i have tranny out replacing rear main seal. I was installing the pump when i broke (what i've been told) the hose from the (flame?) oil trap. It was a very brittle plastic and told it is suppost to be rubber. It broke at the bottom of engine where pan butts up to it. Now can i drive it this way w/ normal operation or does it need to be long enough to be in the pan or is in need of replacement? If i replace it, do i do it from top or under the engine?

TYVM
The Genius,
Vovolishiz
