A flush won't cure a sticking kickdown cable. I changed mine 4 weeks ago. Other than being messy (had to drop the pan), it was not too bad. After the learning curve, I think I can replace the next one in an hour or so.
The end of the KD cable attaches to a spring loaded spool inside the tranny. It's POSSIBLE that the spring may have failed, causing your retraction problem. Can you push the cable back down and work it back and forth, or is it truly frozen? If it is frozen out, the tranny will NEVER go into overdrive.
A simple flush from the transmission cooler outlet should not cause an overdrive light problem should not be related to flush. Begin your trouble shooting by checking the OD fuse. As many others have noted this problem often originates from a short in the wires from the shifter-mounter stitch, of because of a bad overfdrive relay. Did you drop the pan when you did the flush. If so, you may have disturbed the OD solenoid wires, which have insulation that tends crack after a few years. Also, check your tranny fluid level. It sounds like you did a good flush, but it can sometimes be difficult to get the level correct after refilling.
