Rocker arm = spacers vs. springs??? 140-160

After cleaning the rocker assembly, I played with it alttle. It sure seems like those springs pushing the rockers rob quite abit of power... I'm sure this would be some kind of a limitation to the valve train.
So I thought about making some spacers from aluminium with bronze ends to take away the play instead of using those springs. I can make these parts myself, but I am thinking if there would be any down-sides to this?
I'm quite sure this would make the valves require much less power to open/close... what do you guys think? (Maybe a little step closer to roller rockers...haha.)

Cheers.
