first post----headlights 200 1990

hello fellow 240ers! this is the first of what will probably be a number of posts in the next few weeks. i just inherited the family's 1990 240 wagon and i'm trying to learn as much about self maintainance as i can. my first question to anyone who knows is this ---- my left headlight went out this week and thinking that i had burned a bulb went inside and discovered that jiggling the rubber cowling at the wire/light connection brought the light back on. great, except that it only stays on when it's really pressed together by hand. so firstly, in order to just firm up the connection by tightening wires, do i have to disconnect the battery to avoid shock or does it not matter when the engine isn't running or the key isn't in the accessory postiion. the second thing is that that same side bright doesn't activate at all. is it a seperate bulb, or does a different connection activate the same bulb at a higher intensity? i'm still waiting for my bentley book to come in but i'd like to take care of this mystery in this next day or two....(first of many i'm sure). many thanks, have a great night !
