Water pump to head sealing point 900 1991

Engine: B230FB

I've just changed all the seals on the water pump. I found the sealing area in the head above the water pump looks like this (in the pic). There is some slight pitting at the forward edge of the hole (pointing to the front of the engine). I managed to get rid of most the rusty bits with some find sandpaper but I'm concerned that it's just going to start leaking again. Can anything be done about it? It used to leak only when the engine was cold. Do you think it will start leaking again.

Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Brad
