Engine Removal.....A/C Compressor.... 200 1983

Well, what I need to do is replace that pan gasket. That I could not do to save my life with the engine in. I was planning on taking the tranny off and replacing it (it's been very tempramental lately). With that off, I could do the clutch, rear seal, and piot bearing, etc. I wonder, though, if it is easy to remove the cross beam under the engine that the mounts sit on. If I could hoist the engine and remove that, then I could do that oil pan very easily. Then I would not have to remove the engine at all. The front oil seals are not so hard with the engine in (I've done that to another Volvo in the past).

Does anyone know if that is possible/easy? It looks to me like it would not be too difficult. Any reasons this would be a bad idea?

Thanks, all.
