ECU problems 200 1989

I have recently purchased a 1989 240GL. Non-turbo. I have always suspected that something was wrong with the ECU due to the fact that it never seemed to run quiet right, and got terrible gas milage. And loved to backfire occasionally. In the last few days, it appears that the ECU has gone out completely. The ECU that is on there is not the original according to the previous owner. The part number is Bosch/Jetronic 0 280 000 563
Can anyone tell me if this is the correct one for my make and model? My local Volvo dealer wanted me to just bring it in and let them check it for me! Not willing to shell out hose kinda bucks just yet! Any suggestions from other Volvo lovers? THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
