Volvo Problem! 200 1976

I found out that i had a short in either the stop light contact or the interior light, but i also found that if i run it with a fresh battery, i only hear a click from the solenoid but the starter doesn't turn. If i place a cable directly on the solenoids lower contact the starter engine turns but the solenoid doesn't click, so the starter seems to work.

What might be wrong?

This is so hard, i hate electrics in cars!
