AW70 tapping and grinding 200 1987

hello again bricksters,

I recently posted a message regarding some funny AW70 transmission issues and it was suggested that I may have a loose torque converter or flex plate, here are some additional symptoms to help better the diagnosis:

1. on start up, feel as if gears of not completely seated and a bit of
grinding but always fires up.
2. BEFORE tranny is warmed up (before driving more than ~3 miles) putting
car into "Drive" and holding brake down, there is loud tapping coming
from the tranny (and car shakes lightly).
3. shifter has LESS play in "drive" than it used to.
4. It is more difficult to put shifter into "park" position - "park" has
almost no play compared to some play before.
5. On acceleration, especially on turns, tranny sounds like it's grinding
rocks and feels like you're driving on a dirt/rock road.

I'm not sure how to look for the problem without having to take the tranny apart (which would be impossible since I don't have a lift). Any help would be greatly appreciated!
