i just bought a car named regina and she smells like fuel 700 1992

i just bought a car named regina automatic, so as i decelerate at intown speeds i smell raw fuel,i see no leaks and it runs well.i didn't notice it at higher speeds or driving in the country, car does not smoke and seems to hit on all four,i have no idea what kind of mileage having only just bought it yesterday and no history having bought it from a bank (to protect the privacy of previous owner) although they did say that sometimes it "floods" when trying to start and at that time they smelled fuel,so they would let it sit for awhile and then it would start, this has not happened for me,i pulled the vacum hose from f.p.r. and saw no signs of fuel in the hose. anyone want to suggest a direction of attack
