blown engine on 740 Turbo 700 1988

Did it look like this?

The engine was in the 1988 760T my wife drives. I bought it with the broken engine. I installed a 123,xxx mile 1991 B230FT in it very inexpensively. The car (which the donor engine came from) had been hit in the front and chipped the harmonic balancer, so the wrecking yard made it a U-Pull It motor rather selling the motor outright.

Your cheapest solution is a used engine. Volvo introduced 13mm connecting rods as a running change in the 1989 model year. Get a 1990 or later B230FT engine.

You did not state where you are. If you'll state where you are, you will get suggestions about reputable wrecking yards near you. An engine can be shipped inexpensively by truck.
