power steering pump problems 200 1983

Hello all,

I've been having some problems with my power steering pump(s). Yesterday I replaced the water pump and the power steering pump on my daughters 83 244 GL. Well the water pump worked fine and the p.s. pump did not. As soon as I started the car, an awful clacking sound was coming from the p.s.p. I figured it had to be just a bad rebuild. So I took it off and went back to Advance Auto and had it exchanged for a new one. This second p.s.p. clacks but not as bad. I flushed the system again and put in Dexron III fluid. Is this another bad rebuild or do I need that type F transmission fluid? What works best?
