Plug Wire Positions 200

The firing order for a Volvo 4 cyl as with most others is 1-3-4-2. To set things properly, turn the engine until #1 piston is at Top Dead Center (TDC) per the timing marks at the crankshaft pulley. To verify that #1 is on the compression stroke, remove the valve cover and check to make sure that both valves for #1 cylinder are all the way closed, that is the stems are at their highest points.

Remove the dist cap and note which cap terminal the rotor is pointing to. That's where you attach the number 1 plug wire. Turn the crankshaft slightly in the running direction (I think I rember clockwise) and note the direction the rotor turns. Then the next terminal gets #3, the next #4, and finally #2.

Button up valve cover and distrib and you're set.
