TAIL GATE WINDOW / TINT REMOVAL 900 1993

My '93 940 has severely scratched plastic window tint which I want to remove. Scaping with a razor will take forever. I was told that spraying it with Carb cleaner would soften the tint but it also would ruin the paint.I thought I might remove the window but the Haynes manual suggests that it be done by professinals and doesn't provide any instructions. Before I start prying and breaking things, I wonder how it should be done, if it should be done.
