finding dash light 700

I'm chasing down a charging problem on my 90 740GL. The alt bench tests well and the batt load tests well but no charging.
A few days ago I also realized that the charge light on the dash NEVER turns on, and someone here said to look at and test the light in the dash as it connects the excite circuit to the alt.
What is the best way to access the intrument cluster to find the idiot lights?
I looked through the FAQ's and didn't find much and I've never been behind the dash on any of my Volvos.
thanks in advance
-Brent
