wipers sound like they are grinding 200

how do I get to wiper linkage? I suspect that the bushings connecting the two wiper arms are worn due the the crunching sound that occurs during initial 5-10 wipes. Thereafter the sound lessens in intensity. How do I get to the linkage bushings? I can't seem to get to them via under the hood so I assume they are under the dash.
