Removed /Replaced Intake - now, horrible clacking noise. 200 1983

Pulled the intake away from the head to install one of Dave Barton's "new" wiring harnesses. Could hardly believe the extensive deterioration of the original wires once out in the daylight for a good look - lucky not to have had a disaster! Reassembled everything with new gaskets, rebuilt injectors, cleaned-up oil separator, throttle body, and IAC motor, new plugs and wires.

The engine fired after a few turns (refilling the fuel rail and FPR) and ran very smoothly for a few seconds, but then started making an intermittent, loud "clacking" noise. (Okay, here goes: clack...clackity-clackity....clack, clack-clackity...you get the idea). This seems to be coming from the head/manifold area. Very loud, metallic rap.

Any ideas - other than the worst case of: "something got dropped in the intake and is clattering around"? (I'm mentally preparing myself to pull manifold, and if nothing appears then, to pull the head. Don't want to run the engine any more with this ugly sound. What a bummer.)

Thanks for any suggestions!
