It's much more likely that a third person's computer sent the infected email.

When the virus program runs, it sends emails to every name in the address book and adopts a random address from the address book as the apparent "from" address. That email probably did NOT come from StrictlyVolvo, but from another friend who also has StrictlyVolvo in his address book.

This is a really good reason to:

1) Use an email program that's immune to VBS scripts (I trashed Outlook and use Netscape for just that reason), and
2) Use a virus program (I run Norton almost every day and check for updates every morning), and
3) Never, never, never, never open an attachment even if it's from a sender who appears to be a friend. When you receive such an email, save it and send the apparent sender an email asking, "What is this file you sent?" Then you can open the file or discard the file, depending on the response. And, as you did, you can virus-scan the file, thereby avoiding the delay of several round-trip emails...
