Distributor problem 120-130

Aidan, you asked,

I mentioned before that the points spark before they're at the top of the cam and therefore well before the rotor meets the cap contact. Is that normal?

The points will spark just as they start to open, right when the contact is broken. That much is normal. However, it should coincide with the rotor opposing the cap contact. We know you're using a cap that's correctly keyed to your distributor, so I'm having a hard time seeing how that could not be so.

This may be a lapse in my visualization skills, but please double-check. Turn the motor to 18 BTDC (close enough) and see where the rotor ends up relative to the cap.

As Steve says, also check the plug wire order again. I think that one's bitten most of us at some time or another.
