Replaced the noisy blower motor on my '91 745 late last year, and it works fine. But now that the a/c season has begun here in New York state, I discover that the condensation from the a/c is leaking into the car and dripping down from the vent in the plastic cover over the motor. I didn't use any sealant when I put in the blower motor (from FCP Groton) because it came with a rubber gasket. Should I pull it and use silicone sealant or some other sealant? And exactly where? The hold where the wires come through has some clearance around it (on the motor housing) but I believe the water is supposed to drain out of a tube at the bottom. Any suggestions?
Also, I was surprised to discover a thick layer of tan insulating material under the foam under the carpet. (Three layers - carpet, foam, tan insulation.) When I did some work on the driver's side a couple of months ago there was no insulating layer there, only foam and carpet. Could it be that the insulation was removed by a previous owner and not replaced? What is the insulation for - heat shield from the exhaust? Noise damping?
