Wet driver's side carpet 700

Hi all,

I have a 1987 Volvo 764 GLE in good shape. I've noticed that the carpets have been wet on the driver's side (both front and rear). I do not have air conditioning (at least not functioning), so this is not the source.

I thought my sunroof drain was leaking, but this also doesn't seem to be the case (I poured water into the front and rear drain tubes and it came out the bottom without making the carpet wet.)

However, I removed the driver's left foot plastic kick panel, and there is a small plastic door with a seal. I have no idea what this access panel is for, nor can it be removed from inside from what I gather. I do see trails of dirt (dried water evidence) running from the bottom of this panel. The carpets get wet without the car driving (meaning, it isn't being kicked up by the front tires).

This must have been leaking for quite some time, and now I have a floor that has rusted and has a few holes that I need to repair.

(this is not coolant either, it is wet with water. No smell of coolant nor am I loosing coolant).

I am going to try and seal off that access panel, and hope that it solves my problem. I can't figure this out. I hope that it seals the leak and I hope this was the source.

Anyone ever come across this in their 700 series car?

Thanks
