help me start up the brick...Ran out of gas issues 200 1984

Hey all! My volvo has been lingering in the driveway for two weeks now after I ran it out of gas. That night I put in a gallon (not enough---always remember it takes two gallons) and tried to start it way too many times. After a tow home, I've put a lot more gas in the tank, and on subsequent tries it wants to start, but just doesn't get going. I think I have fuel pump issues. I can hear a pump for a split second after I shut off the engine, which is a good sign. I'll have my dad's help tonight, so what should we look for/test/do to get "Ultima Thule" back on the road again? In advance, thanks a ton!
