1993 245 backup light ...and bulb indicator light 200

My backup light on my'93 wagon only works if I push & hold the gear selector in a forward position (pressing against the reverse postion). It seems like the gear selector doesn't want to make a solid connection in reverse. I can hear a little noise like an electrical connection being made when I gently push the selector further into the reverse postion.

I also have another situation which is not related...the burnt bulb indicator flashes on occasionaly when I put my left turn signal on. I have changed the bulb and also have cleaned the bulb receptacle. It works for a brief period of time before going back into an intermittent bulb out situation.

Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?
