First oil change and mechanic question 200 1990

Good morning,

I'm about to embark on my first solo oil change. Can someone recomend the best brand and grade of oil to use on my 1990 240 wagon? Also, is there a particular filter brand that's great? I'm also wondering if people have found it easier to change the filter from the top of the car or the underneath.

We live with my new (old) brick in New York City and wanted to know if there were other people here who know a good (honest) mechanic that they trust here. I'm trying to learn to do as much as I can on my own (thanks senor Bentley), but for the jobs that are just too difficult I would like to feel like the person looking after the car isn't a maniac.
