Question on alternator ground..... 200 1990

This morning when I fired-up the 240, the in-dash voltmeter showed everything was charging and normal. Drove it a few minutes and the voltmeter shows 12V. Seems to me that the alterantor is not charging. I shut the car off, and then turned the ignition into the 'on' psoition. The SRS bag remained lit after I started the car. What's the relation between alternator and SRS? I recently replaced the alternator belts and was wondering if I had knocked off the ground wiring. I tried to peek down there, but didn't see anything. Where is this wire located? I am not ruling out the fact that I may need new brushes (or an alternator).

Thanks,
Raj
