Got my overdrive back!

89 245 auto transmission wouldn't go into overdrive. O/D relay checked ok, but no resistance to the solenoid. Pulled the solenoid out and found that the insulation around the top of the solenoid was pretty much gone and the wiring shot. The locale Volvo dealer wanted THREE HUNDRED dollars for another solenoid! Are they crazy? So, I searched this forum for instructions on cutting a bypass channel and then resealed the solenoid with aircraft fuel tank sealer and reinstalled with a new, outer o-ring. Since the tranny hadn't had a major flush for a long while, I also pulled the pan and replaced the screen. Was very amazed that a 183K tranny was so clean. Put it all back together and went for a test hop. 4 gears again and I have my commuter car back!

Thanks to this forum for all the great info on keeping the old car going!
