tire size and O2 sensor 200 1987

I've got an '87 245DL with 220K. The tires on it are cheap, and they make a lot of road noise. I'm looking for a good tire, and from what I've read the Firestone Indy 500 looks decent. However, I'm having a hard time finding tires in the 245's size. What is the largest tire I can put on the stock rims? And what tire do you recommend?

Second question. I think the O2 sensor is original, and at this point (as a mechanic suggested) the emmissions controls are all carboned up. To replace everything would be too expensive, so I'm looking at the possibility of bypassing the O2 sensor to restore power/economy. I've read about a device called a MIL eliminator, which is spliced into the O2 harness and which in essence lies to the computer, telling it that the emmissions are okay. Does anyone know of such a device for the Volvo? Or has anyone fabricated one of their own?

Thanks for the help.
