Car Overheats 200 1985

When does it overheat? If it does so at idle, my vote would go to
a bad fan clutch. If it overheats at high speed, the problem might
be a clogged radiator. If all the time, your problem is probably
the thermostat or clogged air passages in the rad (clean with
a hose). Replace the thermostat anyway - it's cheap and thermostats
are a wear item.

Lastly, do '85s have a temperature compensator board for the gauge?
A bad compensator board tends to cause the gauge to go apes*@t,
sometimes reading low, often indicating overheating falsely. The
same problem can be caused by bad wiring to the gauge, and your
car is one of the years that tends to have bad underhood wiring.

best of luck,
-b.
