* Neat but not Volvo related aside. My Dad's old Jaguar XK120 has what I think is a really neat feature. When the engine is off there is a small button near the fuel gauge. You press it and it switches to a sender in the oil pan that will read the oil level.

Early Mazda RX7 had this, too, but it was automatic. In KPII with the engine off the tachometer acted as an oil level gauge. Those rotaries used a lot of oil, even new.
