On a Transmission to Convert Torque 200 1982

I think ive misunderstood (2 put it nicely) the removal/install instructions of trans./torque conv./driveplate (AT). When i pulled transmission the torque converter was left bolted to driveplate. Then i removed TConv. and then DPlate. So reinstallation was DPL to crankshaft then TConv. to DPL then slid on trans which i had to bolt on the last half inch of. I now believe that i F'd up because my engine wont crank and ive check everything else b4 i have to pull trans out again. Was i suppost to pull trans out w/ TConv still connected to trans and reinstall trans with TConv. still connected? Would the preemted instal of TConv render it unable to crank for whatever reason??? I need answers, and i need em now, Damn It!!! ;) All help will be greatly appriciated. TYVM for your reply.
