On my 91 744, for as long as I have owned it (couple years)
its idle is a little rocky (only in park/neutral), but certainly not terrible.
When in drive the rpms dip and shakes the car pretty badly (when cold) but then
it normalizes. When suspecting the AMM for giving me these small idle problems and unpluged it to see what would happen. The car ran exactly the way it did when it was plugged in, and the acceleration was as usual (not bad for a four cylinder {as I would say}). The car doesnt stall, or stumble when pressing the pedal.. so whats going on? I find this very odd. I think the AMM is not working, but I have no incentive to fix it. The only thing that may be forcing the car work as it does is that the oxygen sensor brings on the check engine light, so maybe the ecu is giving the car enough fuel due to oxygen sensor failure, which sorta cancels out what the AMM is doing? IDK though. Probably the most important question is, did I unplug the AMM, it is on the air intake hose, right after the air cleaner box, right?
I glad that some of you are enjoying the dependibility of your 700series, but I have had nothing but headaches, I guess Im just unlucky.
Problems within 2 years:
Radiator broke (made out of plastic)
Coolant hose to cabin heater burst.
Transmission failed at 146K - replaced
Windsheild broke for no reason - replaced
Rear muffler rusted out - replaced
Central locking failed - pending (maybe) being fixed.
Lower ball joints replaced.
Kickdown cable broke - replaced
Engine mounts replaced
Transmission mounts replaced
Valve gasket leaked - replaced
AC looses charge every winter - no fixed yet
Rear shocks are shot - not yet fixed
Catalytic converter cracked - welded
Drivers heated seat doesnt heat - dont care to fix.
Headlight relay socket melted - rewired
Oxygen sensor error code - pending being fixed
and now possibly the AMM.
Sorry for complaining, but Im sure you have had these moments aswel. If any could help that would be great.
Thanks, Jon
