It probably doesn't really matter if the arms are at the front, middle or back of the muffler as long as the whole system fits together (and the tailpipe is long enough). My B20 has arms in the middle of the muffler, my B18 had them to the front and my new 2" system has none - it has a single bracket at the back of the muffler (like a mending plate) which attaches to one of the fender bracket bolts by means of a flexible strip of some sort of reinforced fabric.

If your local muffler shop staff are helpful then they should be able to find something that fits. There may be another debate as to different types of mufflers and the way that they affect the flow of the exhaust gasses but thats for someone more expert than me.

Just saw Phil's post mentioning the second set near the gas tank - worth bearing in mind...
