Kayak on my 245 roof rack

I use a HD roofrack. The HD stands for Home Depot. :)

I used some brackets from a IKEA gutter-mount roof rack ($5 as-is, because the cross tubes were scratched), and made up a new frame consisting of 2x4's. I use it mainly for moving 4'x8' sheets and other large, flat, bulky objects.

Not pretty, but functional and sturdy.

So perhaps something like this would work for you.
