How to repair odometer in 1987 740 ?

Thanks. That pin did come out after all. I think I have a different design on my odometer. It is made of white, not clear plastic, and I my 5000-service tumblers sit above the other two sets of numbers. When looking at the odometer reset stem (as when sitting in the car) I pressed the pin out from the right to the left, otherwise it wouldn't budge. Appreciate your help. When that gear breaks do people have a way of buying a new gear? Or is this procedure done just to set a replacement odometer's milage to match the milage of the failed odometer?
