B20 Condition and Compatibility. 120-130

Just yesterday I puchased a B20 engine. I was told that it was rebuilt just prior to when it went into storage about 7 years ago. The exterior of the engine (very dirty) would suggest that to be false, but perhaps it's true. Are there ways to evaluate the condition of a motor as it sits there on the floor? If it has already had a good rebuild then I wouldn't have to bother with that myself, as I was thinking of doing.
And compatability with B18 and 122? The engine seems to have come out of an early 70s 140 or 240 and I can tell at a glance that the clutch as well as the output flange from the J type OD are different.
Any ideas on this?
Thanks.
