1990 740 GLE Start Problems 700 1990

I have a 1990 740 GLE Volvo Wagon. I'm having a problem with the car starting. It starts after a while of sitting at first it was a few mins (15-20) now it can be anywhere from 15 mins to 2 days. The rear fuel pump can't be heard. Haynes says you can replace the pump via the rear passenger seat. It sounds like something I can do myself. What do you think? The hardest thing I've ever done myself is change the front brakes. If you think the problem is something else please tell.
