1990 740 GL will not start

I have a 1990 740GL B200E that will not start. I have spark at the plug and fuel in the tank. The car turns over strong but I hear no noises like a pump. I tried to find the fuel pump relay with no luck. I assume that it is the relay, a pump or power to the fuel system. The problem will come and go with no apparent reason for working or not. When it will not start, often I try it for a while and it does no good and will come back later and it starts right up. Also is there two pumps? Thanks
