Just bought a nice looking '95 964. It has the SC-811 AM/FM/Cassette ("Premium Sound").
The car has 2 dash speakers, 2 front door speakers, 2 rear door speakers, and 2 rear deck speakers.
Only the dash speakers and front door speakers work. When I fade to rear, none of the other 4 speakers come on, and the fronts fade out.
I haven't yet gotten inside the doors to see if they're wired, but the speakers are there, and are old and dusty , so they appear to be original. The deck speakers are there (appear to be 5" x 8" ??), but are apparently not wired in, as I see no wires leading to them. There are two wires protruding from the side of the trunk from underneath the "cover" materal; one has a round "coax"-type plug, with about 4 or 5 pins, and the other is an irregularly-shaped rectangular plug, with about 5 or 5 spade lugs inside it, similar to a switch plug you'd see inside the dash. I haven't pulled out the truck inside surface cover to see if there are any other wires running back there that might be for the rear deck speakers.
Do you think these 2 wires are for the rear speakers, or maybe to a changer (no changer in the trunk, and I don't see where one might have been mounted) ? The strangest thing is, I see NO terminals on the speakers themeselves. There's nothing but the speaker frame, the cone, the magnet, and a plastic cup that is clips onto the magnet from underneath.
Any clue how to wire into these deck speakers ? I've never seen a speaker with no visible inputs, and I'm at a loss as to how to get power to them.
Suggestions for the best way to see if it's a problem in the stereo head itself (short of pulling the head) ? I'm not at this point into revamping the stereo from scratch and replacing the head and speakers, but if all I'll ever have is the four small front speakers, I may rethink........
