Electrical Malfunction? 1800 1973

Recently while replacing the battery in this car, the battery cables were connected to the wrong terminals. It wasd quickly switched back to the correct position. the car started fine without any problems. But soon after every time the ignition switch is turned, the headlights come on--mind you the lights switch is off. The car acts as if it has daylight running lights! I am sure it does not. The battery drains constantly. Even when I try to jump start it with my other volvo, it does not start, sounding as if it is not getting any juice.
What should I check/replace/etc?
Thanks.
