A/C Problem

I have a 96 Volvo 960. The A/C blows cold for about 30-45 min. The hotter it is outside the shorter time it will run. If you turn it off for 10-15 min it will blow cold again for a short while. I have checked the freon level and it is good. I have been told it may be the compressor thermal overload switch and I should bypass it. My 1st question is where is this switch and how do I just bypass it. There is one wire that goes to the clutch and a couple more wires at the rear of the compressor. Are these the wires I should splice? 2nd question, is this going to cause any other problems. I was told the replacement compressors do not even come with this switch because it causes so many problems. Any help will be appreciated.
