Fresh rear brakes, now dash brake light on... 700 1986

I've just replaced the rear brake system in its entirety. The reason was low pads, scored rotors and sticky calipers.Never had the brake light lite up beforehand. Now after all that work it came on within the first few minutes. What triggers it on? Could I have overfilled the M/C and tripped something? Also, related,my e-brake shoes (new)gave me a hard time as far as letting the rotor slide over them. The e-brake lamp is not lit. I had backed the cable ajustment way off, yet I am worried it may still be dragging a bit. After driving a short distance, the rotor feels hot enough that you'd think twice about touching it.Has anyone else experienced a snag like this? Thanks for sharing any experience.
