Shift Indicator Light 700 1990

Help! I have a 1990 GLE and the shift indicator light either comes on when I first start the car (and stays on), or when I`m on the highway, or at some point during my travels. But, it`s usually on most of the time, and it feels like it`s draining my car. Is there a way to disconnect it so that it doesn`t come on all of the time?

Also, I just had the intake manifold gasket replaced and it seems to be
leaking oil when it wasn`t before. I noticed oil leaking on the exaust pipe
which causes it to smoke really bad sometimes. Any suggestions?
