1986 240 dl wagon heater blower motor 200

I am new to Volvoland. My neice and I both have 86 240DL wagons. I have only had mine 2 weeks. I said I would help her with her blower motor that was smoking/squacking/etc... It has since quit completely. I have a Bentley manual ordered but is not here yet. I read some archived messages and I think I may have gotten myself into a nightmare job. Is it as bad as they say??? From the sounds of it Volvo built the cars around blower and made it a real hunt. Please tell me it isn't that bad. If anyone has any tricks I would love to hear them.

Thanks again, Tom
