Tappet Acne 1800

I've pulled the head off of my B20 for some work. This motor was rebuilt soup-to-nuts fresh 10,000 miles ago.

While it is off I decided to inspect the lifters. I used a unitek 272 cam and volvo lifters (I can't remember what part#'s). There is mild pitting on the faces. All lifters have some mild pitting. Nothing freaky. From what I can see with a flashlight the cam lobes are shiny and pit-free.

When I broke in the cam I used generous amounts of break-in lube and followed the 1/2 hour 2500 rpm protocol. I have seen this before in a friend's B20 which had only 70,000 miles on it. I was surprised when I saw his lifters but I was very surprised to see mine.

You guys see this alot?

steve
