Debadging Rumor 200

(I post here for two reasons:
1. I'm not sure which models this rumor applies to, but my dad mentioned it because I debadged my car, a 240, after repainting.
2. Even if the rumor isn't true for 240 cars, this forum seems to have the most knowledgable members for Volvo's history.)

According to my dad, when he was in either Sweden or Norway, he saw debadged Volvos. Asking a fellow businessman about them (probably a car guy, if not a Volvo employee), he was told that the debadged Volvos are special ones from the factory, built-to-order and picked up there.

I know that some car manufacturers have that whole "pick up from the factory" program thing, but debadging the cars doesn't seem to make much sense. Rather, I would think that the cars would get a special emblem or something to signify their uniqueness.

Is there any validity to this story? Are/were the Volvos made and picked up at the factory distinguishable from the rest?
